The SAMEurope team at the European Student Athlete (EAS) Annual Conference in Katowice

From October 1st to October 3rd, the Polish city of Katowice welcomed the annual EAS Conference under the theme “Dual career at school and university – innovative bridges between sport and education”

Founded in 2004 and supported by the European Commission, the EAS aims to create a network of universities and sports schools to support students following a Dual Career.

For the second year in a row, the SAMEurope team at INSA Lyon joined the EAS Conference as it is both be an opportunity to broaden its network and an entry point to further develop the project among a community of institutions specialised in these types of questions.

Dorothée Brac de la Perrière, European projects Manager, and Hervé Bizzotto, Manager of the High-Level Sports Section at INSA Lyon, attended the conference together where they had the opportunity to meet with representatives of other institutions and discuss good practices around DC students’ development.

The submission of three abstracts before the conference bore fruit as they were selected to make a short presentation in front of the audience under the following themes:

  • The Erasmus+ Academic Mobility of Student-Athletes
  • Promoting dual careers at higher education institutions: 31 benefits ranked by the SAMEurope project
  • The High Performance Sports Sections of a French Engineering School

The first two abstracts, allowed for a presentation of the specificities of SAMEurope and how the project team came to define and rank the 31 benefits higher education institutions can offer to DC students. You can read the abstracts via the Conference Book here.

The presentations received great feedback and stirred interesting questions from the audience.

This shows how significant a project which tackles the international mobility of DC students is but also the numerous ways it could expand in the near future.

Student Athletes Erasmus+ Mobility in Europe is the first project supporting dual career students in their Erasmus+ mobility experience, co-financed by the European Commission.

SAMEurope is co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Commission. Neither the European Union nor the European Commission can be held responsible for them.
