In 2022, five renowned universities have joined their forces to address a European challenge:
the international mobility of dual career (DC) students, for whom an Erasmus+ mobility abroad is challenging for their sport and academic paths.
The project ambitions to:
- Make Erasmus+ programme more inclusive towards DC students, by supporting them and facilitating synergies in different European Higher Education Institutions
- Create and nurture a European DC network with good practices
- Improve DC students’ employability, by highlighting their skills gained from their international mobility for their professional and sport career
- Inspire a sense of belonging to the European Sport community by supporting DC students in a broader way than their national sport frame
During the 3 years of the project, the partner institutions will work together to provide:
- A best practices guide for all European Higher Education Institutions to improve incoming and outgoing mobility of DC students
- A platform with Erasmus+ mobility opportunities across Higher Education Institutions in Europe, combining sport practices and academic fields
- A sociological study on the benefits of international mobility both for the professional and the sportive careers of the student athletes

When sport, university and international converge
In the European higher education landscape, sports units tend to build local partnerships rather than expand internationally. In fact, their main priority is to enable student athletes to train with the best federations, clubs, and coaches. SAMEurope’s ambition is to create an unprecedented network of Higher Education Institutions and to foster more European collaborations supporting high-level athletes’ mobility.
Current partners in the SAMEurope project were approached by INSA Lyon, through existing Erasmus+ partnerships for studies solely.
Partners have been identified as strategic for SAMEurope for the quality of their teaching, sports facilities, and research activities linked to sports. They fully embrace their role of promoting sport and supporting students in their dual careers.
SAMEurope is an inclusive project, open to all European universities that have the “same” ambition : to facilitate the international mobility of their top-athletes.
