From June 24th to 26th, the Spanish city of Seville welcomed the 2024 CEREPS (European Council of Research in Physical Education & School Sport) Summit under the theme “The impact of physical activity on mental health (emotional, psychological and social well-being) from childhood and adolescence through adulthood”
Founded in 2015 as a non-governmental, non-profit organization, the purpose of CEREPS is to develop, implement, evaluate and disseminate research at the European level about the aims and objectives of physical education, school sports and other physical activity in school contexts.
This year, the SAMEurope team was represented by Prof. Dr. Swantje Scharenberg, Coordinator of DC students at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). As a long term CEREPS member she had the opportunity to make a presentation of the project while focusing on ‘DC athletes and health: A contradiction?’ and giving concrete examples of how it works for DC students at KIT. The presentation received great feedback and was regarded as very interesting by the audience who shared their experience with high level athletes within their universities.
The presentation led to a paper written by Swantje Scharenberg, Pascale Kohler, Per Thoren, Johan Bankel, Magnus Karlsteen, Sami Kalaja, Minna Rasinaho, Aki Karjalainen, Florian Agneray, Alexia Deflon, Dorothée Brac de la Perriere, María Pilar Marín, Marta Renau, Carlos Hernando which will be published in the next volume of CEREPS Book Serie, Meyer & Meyer (Research on Physical Education and School Sport in Europe | | | Meyer & Meyer Verlag).
This was another great opportunity to disseminate SAMEurope’s approach, aims and results.!
